Winter Trip December 2016 Beijing Day 1 – 5

Yes two winter trip in a year! How exciting.

The trip to Beijing was a quickly planned one with only 2 destination in mind. The Great Wall and the Forbidden City.

Arrived around midnight at Beijing and it was -2degree. Hello Winter!

Checked in really late that night and the rest happened in dreamland.
Woke up the next morning slightly later than usual for breakfast.
Bubble lifts makes me really excited!

Can’t miss out pork buns when you’re in china. Unfortunately this was the only picture I have as I gobbled down all my food the moment it was served.

Once done with breakfast, we were off to the forbidden city. But not before stopping the food market, and getting more buns.

Clear skies greeted us the entire day.

Forbidden City! Unknowingly hit 30,000 steps that day and we did not even finish walking the palace.

Lovely winter evening. Blue skies, which is so rare in Beijing.

When I go to China, I really like to buy their milk tea / yoghurt. My favourite milk tea, which I bought everyday, thinking they don’t sell it in Singapore.

Took a short rest in the hotel before heading out for Peking Duck. When in Beijing, make sure you have the Peking Duck. Duhh.

Woke up not so bright and early the next morning. First off, breakfast which I don’t have a picture of cause I was too hungry to even bother taking out my phone.

About a 1.5hour drive later, we arrived at the Great Wall!
Look at the number of tickets we had to get. One was for the shuttle bus to the cable car station, another for the cable car and another was to enter the area.

Little puppy greeted up before we started our walk.

3 hours and more later, we were done with the Great Wall and headed off to the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube, AKA the Beijing National Stadium.

We had to pay to go in, which was weird and ridiculous but we decided we should be scammed at least once as tourist. I mean, the Bird’s Nest is still a pretty sight!

The Water Cube not so much.

It started getting slightly hazing but I thought since I prepared a mask I might as well put it on.

With the 2008 Olympic Mascot that shares the same name as me, just different character.

Back we were, for dinner. Always over ordering, but it was definitely great.

Yupp, big bowl of fish soup which was really good.

Day 1 of our trip was spent travelling from the airport to our hotel and sleeping the rest of it. Day 2 and 3 started off on a really good note because we were not expecting the air to be that clean. Definitely enjoyed the food but not the traffic.

Bright and early on Day 4, we got up and packed our luggage, really for the trip to the Great Wall again, but a different part. We have booked a hotel right at the foot of the Great Wall where we will be able to experience the Great Wall privately. And that is definitely not a lie!

Because it was a private part of the Great Wall, it was not developed for tourist ease of walking. It took us a 30min hike up a short hill / mountain before we arrived.

Look at how undeveloped the great wall is! Had to walk up a close to 45° slope. Walking up was less scary than walking down!

Personal Great Wall.

Thus deserving a selfie.

The walk up and down took up so much energy the body was overheating so much I couldn’t even feel that -2degree cold.

On the cold morning of Day 5, we packed up and headed off the the train station. The most chaotic day of my life, we couldn’t stand the messiness at the train station one bit. Without even considering anything else, we changed our train ticket to a train 1hour earlier just to avoid the crowd at Beijing main station. Thus our 4.5hour train journey begun…
